2017-2018 Teen Indoor Para Rowing
WHAT: A weekly indoor Para rowing fitness/training program.
WHEN: Saturdays, 2:00-3:30 pm; Jan 6-Feb 17.
WHERE: Community Rowing – 20 Nonantum Road, Brighton (at Newton/Boston line).
WHO: Teens with Paralympic eligible impairments (visual and/or physical).
WHY: Fitness, friends, fun.
Join Community Rowing and Adaptive Sports New England for this fun winter training program. You will learn to row on CRI’s indoor rowing ergometers; you will train with a team of teenage Para rowers; and if you’re so inclined, you can compete in the CRASH-B indoor rowing championships held at BU February 25. Whether you have never rowed before or you are an experienced oarsman/oarswoman, this program will prepare you to be rowing on the Charles River by the time spring rolls around. Or this can just be cross-training for your other sports.
HOW IT WORKS
The program is open to teenagers who have a visual impairment or a physical/mobility impairment that make them eligible for Para rowing competition. Participants must be healthy enough for vigorous exertion; be able to securely hold an oar in at least one hand; and be able to receive and apply coaching in a group setting. Each rower will be on his/her own ergometer, so each rower can progress at his/her own rate. If you have questions about eligibility or fit, please contact Joe or Jenny at the numbers/e-mails below.
COMMITMENT & COST
We understand that not every participant will be able to commit to every Saturday for the entire winter. Because each rower is on his/her own erg, no absolute commitment is required, though
- Training Season Jan 6-Feb 17 $100 for the season
- Coaching at CRASH-B competition Feb 25 Included (entry fee separate)
Financial assistance is available upon request. No charge for Boston Public Schools students.
