Sled Hockey in New England

Winter is here and so is the opportunity to see the region’s sled hockey athletes in action. Sled hockey, which is played all over the world, is a version of hockey where players sit on an aluminum sled mounted on two skate blades instead of standing up on skates. Most players have lower limb mobility impairments, but anyone can play. New England has several teams that compete throughout the year, organized in tournaments through the Northeast Sled Hockey League—the first co-ed league of its kind in the country.

On January 8th, the Atlantic region teams: the Northeast Passage Wildcats, the Spaulding Shamrocks, the Boston ICE Storm, the Springfield Thunderbirds, the New England Warriors, and the Central Vermont Pioneers will go head-to-head in a weekend tournament at the Allied Veterans skating rink in Everett, Massachusetts. This will be a great opportunity to see sled hockey live.

You can learn more about how to watch the matches at Northeast Sled Hockey League’s website. Then come see this rough-and-tumble sport live!
